Its seeds are rich in soluble fiber, which promotes digestion and intestinal well-being. They are very small and thin (1000 seeds weigh less than 2 g) hence their name from the Greek word\u00a0<em>psyllia<\/em>, which means flea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psyllium belongs to the category of mechanical\u00a0<strong>laxatives<\/strong>\u00a0known as\u00a0<strong>ballast<\/strong>\u00a0(or mass) laxatives which are made up of\u00a0<strong>fibers<\/strong>\u00a0that absorb several times their weight in water and increase the weight of the stool.
